The American Gold Buffalo is one of the newest annual bullion products from the United States Mint. This 2017 bullion coin features the famed Lincoln Memorial on its obverse, while on the reverse is the Peace Gate National Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The United States Mint issued American Gold Buffalo coins to compete with bullion pieces minted in 24-karat gold from other sovereign mints. The American Gold Eagle, the United States' official gold bullion coin, is well-known around the world, however it is made of 22-karat gold rather than 24-karat gold.
The American Gold Buffalo measures 41.3mm in diameter and weighs a whopping 1,000 troy ounces, or about 21.3 times the weight of an ounce of pure gold.
On the obverse, a Native American picture celebrates the memory of our land's first occupants, while on the reverse, the strength of the American Buffalo remembers the nation's westward expansion pioneering spirit.
